Gaza, Nov 8 (UNI) More than 200 citizens of Germany have already left the Gaza Strip, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said in the early hours of Wednesday.
"Over 200 Germans and their family members have already left Gaza [...] Big thanks to our partners in Egypt for the support. We continue working further so that every German eager to leave could do that," Baerbock wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
On Monday, it was reported that 30 German citizens had left Gaza via Rafah crossing to Egypt as evacuations resumed for foreign passport holders following a two-day suspension.
The evacuations were suspended on Saturday after an Israeli strike on an ambulance in the Gaza Strip.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip with the declared aim to eliminate Hamas fighters and rescue the hostages.
The escalation of the conflict has resulted in the deaths of around 1,400 people in Israel and over 10,000 in the Gaza Strip.
