Rameswaram, July 28 (UNI) Senior BJP Leader and Union Home Minister

Amit Shah on Friday evening flagged off the party's state-wide padayatra,

covering more than 1,700 km, to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi

return to power for a third successive term in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

BJP Tamil Nadu Unit President K.Annamalai will lead the yatra from this

temple town of Rameswaram.

Apart from ensuring that Prime Minister Narendra Modi retains power

for a record third term, the Padyatra was aimed at BJP gaining a firm

foothold in Tamil Nadu and galvanise the party cadres for the polls.

In the padayatra, covering all the 39 Parliamentary and 234 Assembly

constituencies in the State and christened "En Mann, En Makkal (My

Land, My people") leaders of the alliance parties of the BJP, including

its principal ally the AIADMK, and other like-minded parties, will take

part.

Mr Annamalai, who will lead the yatra, that would last for about six

months, said the yatra would enlighten the people on the benefits the

Modi-led government had brought to each Assembly constituency in

the State and to get the people’s support for the BJP and its allies in

the Lok Sabha election.

A booklet--‘What did Modi do?’--was released to mark the launch of

the yatra and one lakh copies will be distributed in Ramanathapuram

district.

Mr Annamalai said for 1,700 km, the yatra will be on foot and then on

a special vehicle for 900 km.

There will be short breaks during the yatra which will be completed by

January 2024 before the Lok Sabha election work begins.

During the yatra, public meetings will be held in ten cities in which a

Union Minister will participate.

Mr.Annamalai said leaders of the alliance parties would be taking part

throughout the yatra and at the public meetings.

Mr.Annamalai and a large number of party cadres covered a stretch of

about 4 km and ended the first day yatra at the Sri Ramanathaswamy

Temple.
