New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday voiced concern over the global uncertainties and said the Global South countries are facing challenges about health security, food security and energy security.

In his opening remarks at the 3rd Voice of the Global South virtual Summit here, Modi said "It is the need of the hour for the countries of the Global South to unite, stand together in one voice, and become each other's strength".

"Let us learn from each other's experiences. Share your abilities .Together, take your resolutions to success. Let us together recognize two-thirds of humanity" he added.

The Prime Minister also assured the participating countries of India's unwavering commitment to extend full support to them in various key areas, including in the domain of digital public infrastructure.

Raising concerns over the atmosphere of "uncertainty" in the world, Modi said, "The world has not yet completely come out of the impact of Covid.On the other hand, the war situation has created challenges for our development journey"

"We are not only facing the challenges of climate change, but now there are also concerns about health security, food security, and energy security" he added.

India is hosting the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit virtually, reflecting the country’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

He also referred to challenges of terrorism, extremism and separatism, saying "These issues remain serious threats to our societies".

"Technology divide and new economic and social challenges related to technology are also emerging.The global governance and financial institutions created in the last century have been unable to meet the challenges of this century" the PM noted.

Modi assured that India is committed to sharing its experiences and capabilities with all countries of the Global South.

"We want to promote mutual trade, inclusive growth, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, and women-led development. Over the past few years, our mutual cooperation has been boosted by infrastructure, digital and energy connectivity" he said.

Speaking about the summit, the PM said, "It is a platform where we are giving voice to the needs and aspirations of those who have been unheard till now".

"I believe that our strength lies in our unity, and on the strength of this unity we will move towards a new direction" he said.

Lauding the role of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in driving inclusive growth, Modi noted that the establishment of the Global DPI Depository during India's G20 Presidency marked the first multilateral consensus on DPI.

"We are pleased to have agreements to share the “India Stack” with 12 partners from the Global South.To accelerate DPI in the Global South, we have created the Social Impact Fund. India will make an initial contribution of $25 million" he added.
