Hamirpur (HP), June 12 (UNI) Due to snow melting and rainfall in the catchment area of Beas river, downstream water level and discharge from the dam may rise suddenly during the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday.
All persons residing or working in the downstream areas of the dam are advised to remain alert and avoid going near the river banks/low-lying areas, said an official spokesman here on Friday.
In a statement, he said, “ Please follow safety instructions. Do not venture near the Beas River banks or into the riverbed for any activity, including sightseeing, photography”.
He advised the people living in downstream areas in Mandi, Kangra, and Hamirpur districts should remain vigilant.
Similarly, he advised the Contractors and workers with machinery in the riverbed must immediately move equipment to higher ground to avoid damage or loss.
The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has been continuously monitoring the situation. Further updates will be issued if discharge volumes increase, he said.
