Raipur, Oct 22, (UNI) The skies over Naya Raipur will transform into a canvas of national pride on November 5, when the Indian Air Force’s(IAF) famed Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) will take flight in a breathtaking display of precision and skill. The air show, a highlight of Chhattisgarh’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, promises to leave spectators enthralled with formations that blend speed, symmetry, and patriotism.
Symbolising Chhattisgarh’s journey of progress and confidence, the grand aerial display will showcase the best of Indian valour and technological prowess. As the nine-aircraft formation executes iconic manoeuvres such as Bomb Burst, Heart in the Sky, and Arrowhead, the audience will witness the discipline and teamwork that define India’s air warriors.
Jointly organised by the Chhattisgarh Government and the Indian Air Force, preparations for the event are in their final stages. Officials said the show is expected to draw an unprecedented turnout, celebrating the spirit of a young and confident India. Thousands of citizens, students, and families from Raipur and adjoining districts are expected to gather in Naya Raipur to witness the aerial extravaganza. More than an air display, the Suryakiran show will serve as a tribute to the values of discipline, precision, and dedication that define the Indian Air Force.
On November 5, the skies of Naya Raipur will reverberate with the roar of jets and the pulse of patriotism. The event is set to make the state’s Silver Jubilee truly memorable, evoking admiration and gratitude toward India’s airmen. Formed in 1996, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team has long symbolised India’s courage and technical excellence. It is Asia’s only nine-aircraft formation team, capable of flying with as little as five metres between wings, a feat that demands unmatched skill and coordination.
The team began its journey with the HJT-16 Kiran Mk-II aircraft and, in 2015, transitioned to the indigenously built HAL Hawk Mk-132 Advanced Jet Trainer, embodying India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing. Beyond their daring displays, the Suryakiran pilots inspire countless young Indians to serve the nation in uniform.
To date, SKAT has performed over 700 air displays across India and abroad, including in Sri Lanka, the UAE, Singapore, the UK, and Thailand. The team has represented India at prestigious global events such as the Singapore Air Show, Dubai Air Show, and the Royal Thai Air Force’s 88th anniversary, earning admiration worldwide for their skill and precision.
In 2023, the Suryakiran team captured global attention with its spectacular fly-past over the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the Cricket World Cup, symbolising the perfect fusion of national pride, sporting spirit, and military excellence. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said “It is a matter of immense pride for Chhattisgarh that the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team will be part of our Silver Jubilee celebrations. This historic event represents our state’s journey of growth, confidence, and national pride. The performance will ignite patriotism among our youth and inspire them toward national service. I urge all citizens to witness this proud moment and salute the skill and spirit of our brave air warriors.”
