Akola, Nov 17 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said if the government wants to stop ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kannyakumari to Kashmir ' then it should be stopped.
Addressing a press conference at Chani Phata, Wadegaon, of Akola districts, Gandhi said, Bharat Jodo Yatra is a thought, a journey. Farmers, laborers, youth, shopkeepers are presenting their problems, pains and sufferings during the padyatra.
This padayatra has been started with the noble intention of connecting the country.
Even though the message of love is being conveyed through the padayatra, not hatred, if the government wants to stop this padayatra, they should stop, he said.
Speaking further he said there is an ideology of those who spread hatred in the country and another ideology is that of those who unite the country. How does the country become strong by spreading hatred, he asked.
Unity in diversity is the identity of this country, to maintain this identity, this walk will go from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to connect the country. This walk got a great response in Maharashtra and I got to learn a lot from it.
Why should Mahatma Gandhi have thought of staying in Wardha from the country. I came to know the answer after coming to this land of Vidarbha.
Vidarbha of Maharashtra is the land of Congress ideas.
Talking about Savarkar, Gandhi showed the letter written by Savarkar to the British government and read some of its contents while saying that I did not say anything wrong in the statement I had made about Savarkar, I presented only the historical truth, he clarified.
Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel were also imprisoned by the British for many years but they did not get their release by writing a letter to the British government. This is the difference between these two ideologies. One is Gandhi's ideology and the other is Savarkar's, he said.
The voice of the people is not heard, the voice of the farmers, youth and laborers is not heard by the government. Oppositions not allowed to speak in Parliament. There are many problems in the country but the government is not listening to them, the people are being kept under the shadow of fear by spreading hatred and violence.
Responding to farmer suicides, Gandhi said that farmer suicides are not only a problem in Vidarbha but a problem of farmers across the country. If farmers want to prevent suicide, there is a need to support, help and stand firmly behind this sacrifice king who provides food grains to the country. It is the responsibility of the government to protect the farmers. When the UPA government took a historic decision to waive the loans of farmers and implemented it, but now the BJP government at the center does not listen to the voice of the farmers, giving them help is a far cry. The situation is the same with the youth, he added.
Congress leader KC Venugopal, Head of Media Department Jairam Ramesh, In-charge H. K. Patil, State President Nana Patole among others were present.
