KTR appeals to Defence Min to expedite transfer of defence lands for road development projects

New Delhi/Hyderabad, June 23 (UNI) Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi

on Friday.



The Minister presented representations to the Defence Minister reiterating the appeals to expedite transfer of defence lands for various road development projects in and around Hyderabad.



The projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion on the arterial roads of the city.

KTR also appealed to Rajnath Singh to expedite excision of civil areas of Secunderabad

Cantonment Board (SCB) and its merger with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation,

The defence lands were sought for the road projects such as development of Skywalk at Mehdipatnam, development of elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari (SH01), development of

elevated corridor from Paradise junction to Outer Ring Road (ORR) Junction near Kandlakoya

on NH-44, link roads under Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL)

project and certain road widening works.



The MA&UD Minister said that Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) undertook the construction and development of a Skywalk at Rythu Bazar, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad, as part

of the city's road network and pedestrian movement improvement project. Defense Land area of approximately 0.20 hectares or 0.51 acres is required to proceed with the initiative.



The Minister mentioned the State government’s proposal for the development of Elevated Corridor from Paradise Junction (near Gymkhana Grounds) to ORR Junction on Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Ramagundam (HKR) Road (SH-01) (Rajeev Rahadari).





The proposed route passes through significant locations such as West Marredpally, Karkhana, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet, Thumkunta, and ends at the junction with ORR at Shamirpet. It covers a length of 18.400 kilometers and the exit and entry ramps are planned at Trimulgherry Junction (two ramps) and Alwal.



The Minister also mentioned the State government’s proposal for the development of the Elevated Corridor from Paradise Junction to ORR Junction near Kandlakoya on National Highway-44.



The proposed route passes through significant locations such as Secunderabad, Tadbund Junction, Bowenpally Junction, Suchitra, Kompally, and Kandlakoya villages, and ends at the ORR junction near Medchal.



Additionally, KTR appealed to the Union Minister to transfer small portions of defence land for the creation of link roads and road widening in Hyderabad.



The road widening works were proposed at locations such as Kanchanbagh, the junction of Road No.1 and 12 at Banjara Hills, from Zohra Bee Dargah to Rakshapuram, from Mohammadi Lane to Andhra Flour Mill Road and from Andhra Flour Mill to Tippu Khan Bridge.

Chairman B. Vinod Kumar and Special Chief Secretary of MA&UD Arvind Kumar were present

at the meeting.
