Guwahati, Dec 1 (UNI) The alert guards of Kaziranga National park have foiled an attempt to poach the one horned rhinos even as five persons have been arrested for their involvement in the poaching attempt.
The successful operation carried out by Eastern Range, Gamari and Crime Investigation Range have also recovered two nos of ammunition and a rifle from a fringe area of the park near Gohpur.
"The weapon was brought from neighbouring state for poaching of rhinos inside Kaziranga National Park. Seven accused persons were involved in the act," Park Director Sonali Ghosh said in Monday.
She said that one person, Biswarup Mili (Dakkar Mili) of Raonamukh was arrested November 30 and was produced before the court in Gohpur. Later four more persons including R Pegu, Birgu Pegu, Bimal Pachung and Siva Guru Pachung were arrested.
It is worth mentioning that so far total of 12 person were arrested during last 10 days, signifying the number of poaching attempts thwarted by an alert forest department .
