MLAs demand Bharat Ratna for Shibu Soren in Jharkhand House

Ranchi, Aug 22 (UNI) The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly resumed today with Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore presenting the first supplementary budget for 2025-26 amounting to Rs 4,296.62 crore.
The House also paid homage to former chief minister and Jharkhand’s iconic leader Shibu Soren, popularly known as Dishom Guru, and former minister Ramdas Soren.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, and several legislators expressed grief over their demise.
During the condolence references, MLAs demanded that Shibu Soren be awarded Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award.
While urging Bharat Ratna for Soren, Poreyahat MLA Pradeep Yadav urged the Assembly to include his life and struggles in the state’s school curriculum.
Bagodar MLA Arup Chatterjee echoed the demand and sought installation of Soren’s statue within the Assembly premises. Dumri MLA Jayram Mahato remembered him as a leader whose thoughts and ideals would remain immortal.
Speaker Rabindranath Mahato adjourned the proceedings for the day, announcing that discussion on the supplementary budget would be taken up on August 25. The four-day session will conclude on August 28.
The monsoon session was originally convened on July 26 but was adjourned indefinitely on August 4 following Soren’s death. It has now resumed as a supplementary session.
