Mumbai, Nov 25 (UNI) BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis may take charge as new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, while Eknath Shinde is likely to be Deputy CM along with Ajit Pawar, political sources said here on Monday.
According to highly placed sources in BJP, the top party leadership this afternoon had cleared Fadnavis’ name, and the proposal also received the approval of alliance partners -- Shiv Sena led by Shinde and NCP of Ajit Pawar.
Fadnavis is the most prominent BJP face in the state, who enjoys the confidence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of BJP. He is also favoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Even Ajit Pawar was rooting for fellow Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis, to be the next chief minister of Maharashtra, sources said.
Pawar had convened a meeting with newly elected NCP legislators at his residence on Sunday, where he reportedly shared his support for Fadnavis.
However, sources in the Mahayuti said, “Apart from Fadnavis as CM, both the Shiv Sena and NCP will have one deputy CM each.”
The Mahayuti alliance won 235 seats in the 288-member House.
