Republic Day celebrated in Machhal Sector

New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour by the people of Machhal Sector in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday. Several events were organised at village Machhal, Dudi , T Shuntwari and Kamkari etc. The locals including Sarpanchs, Numberdars, village elders, Tehsildar etc turned up in large numbers and celebrated the 'bada din' amongst themselves as also with troops, the Indian Army said. Jammu & Kashmir Police personnel and a large number of school children were also present during the events. Such large participation despite the inclement weather and snow bears testimony to the patriotism of the people of Macchal Sector. The Tricolour was hoisted at all the garrisons, forward posts, Government buildings, Army Goodwill Schools etc, the Indian Army said. Apart from flag hoisting, the people also participated in wreath laying to honour the war heroes and martyrs. March past by NCC students, screening of documentaries and movies and singing of national anthem and other patriotic songs were also held, said the Indian Army. Machhal is peaceful, picturesque valley with lush green forests, gently flowing milky streams and beautiful meadows located approximately 50 km north of Kupwara in Jammu & Kashmir.
