Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 (UNI) Vedanta Aluminium has expanded its community-focused energy conservation initiatives across Odisha by installing 1,700 solar lights.
These include 1,280 household solar lights in Lanjigarh and 421 solar streetlights across key mining regions.
As part of its broader efforts to promote responsible energy consumption and improve access to clean energy, the company has also conducted awareness programmes focused on safety, sustainability, and efficient energy use in rural and semi-urban communities.
During Energy Conservation Week (December 7–13), Vedanta Aluminium strengthened clean-energy access at the grassroots level through large-scale solar lighting installations and community engagement activities across Lanjigarh, its mining regions, and Jharsuguda.
In FY25, Vedanta Aluminium consumed 1.57 billion units of renewable energy, achieved energy savings of 378 million units, and reduced its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 8.96 per cent compared to FY21.
The company is also progressing toward securing 1,500 MW of renewable power through long-term power purchase agreements as part of its 2030 decarbonisation roadmap.
Commenting on the initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajiv Kumar said that by expanding solar access in villages and improving efficiency across its plants, the company is supporting Odisha's development.
In Lanjigarh, 1,280 solar lights were distributed across 16 villages, improving household access to clean energy, while 140 solar streetlights were installed across 33 villages, benefiting over 10,000 community members.
Similarly, in the mining regions, 421 solar-powered streetlights were installed across villages in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda. These installations benefit over 15,000 residents and are expected to reduce approximately 49 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually.
